Marvel will return to the year 2099 for a series of one-shot snapshots from the era. While most characters are the focus of only one issue, Victor Von Doom is ominously present in two of them: Doom 2099 #1 and 2099 OMEGA #1.
Doom 2099 #1 will come from writer Chip Zdarsky (Sex Criminals) and artist Marco Castiello (Giant-Man). Zdarsky voiced his excitement for the issue, telling Marvel.com, “I loved the original Doom 2099, so this is a total dream project, getting to help reinvent the world. In our one-shot we do our best to really hold onto the spirit of the original, of Victor Von Doom starting from the bottom, while giving it some new twists, like his astounding 2099 hip hop career.”
Of course, with Zdarsky known for his humorous anecdotes, the seriousness of Victor Von Doom dropping phat beats in 2099 can be viewed with some skepticism.
Doom is also touted as ruling the future in 2099 OMEGA #1 from writer Nick Spencer (The Amazing Spider-Man) and artist Gerardo Sandoval (Venom). The cover from Patrick Gleason and Rachelle Rosenberg, combined with the claim that there are no heroes to stop the future from ending in 2099, give glimpses into a dark future ruled -- and potentially ended -- by Doom himself.
2099 appears to be a time when Victor Von Doom is in his element. Whether he's ruling the planet with an iron fist, topping the charts with his sick new track or both, Doom will be a force to be reckoned with when the 2099 series of one-shots releases this December.
Zdarsky and Castiello's DOOM 2099 #1 and Spencer and Sandoval's 2099 OMEGA #1 will release on an as-yet-unknown date this December.
