Entertainment Earth has debuted four new transforming toys that tie into the upcoming movie Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

The new set of tie-in toys for the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons movie was detailed in an article from GamesRadar. These Bakugan-inspired action figures begin as detailed twenty-sided dice, called d20s by tabletop gamers, then change into one of four classic D&D monsters. The first two figurines depict famous monsters from the Greyhawk supplement for Original D&D, the Owlbear and the Beholder. The Owlbear is snow-white, much like the one from Honor Among Thieves' trailer, while the Beholder is orange with purple accents. The following two "Dicelings" are named characters from the movie, Rakor the Black Dragon and Themberchaud the Red Dragon.

Dungeons & Dragons' Iconic Monsters

Owlbears have been a staple of D&D since nearly the very beginning and have featured in every edition of the game since. Their origin lies with Gary Gygax, the creator of D&D, who would search dime stores for new and exciting figurines for the war game Chainmail. The Owlbear, along with other famous creatures like the Bulette and Rust Monster, was inspired by plastic Kaiju figurines produced in Hong Kong. While the canonical origin of the species has never been revealed, many of the game's Monster Manuals hint at them being the result of magical experimentation.

Beholders are monsters that are as synonymous with D&D as dragons themselves. Since Greyhawk, they've appeared in every edition of the game, often serving as the end boss for various pre-written modules. Beholders are extremely powerful magical aberrations composed of a floating spherical body with a large central eye and mouth ringed by ten eye stalks. Each eye produces a different magical effect, from charming an unsuspecting adventurer to instantly disintegrating an intruder.

Both the dragon figurines depict characters that will feature in the upcoming film, but Themberchaud specifically originates from D&D 5e. Themberchaud, aka the Wyrmsmith of Gracklstugh, was first introduced in the 5e module Out of the Abyss, released in 2015. In this story, he fueled the forges of the Duergar, aka dark or gray dwarves, in Gracklstugh. Due to his lavish and sedentary lifestyle, he eventually grew to be hugely overweight, to the point where he was eternally trapped deep beneath the earth. On the other hand, Rakor the Black Dragon appears to be an original character, and the description of his figurine advises customers to keep an eye out for him in Honor Among Thieves.

Each Diceling is available separately for preorder at $13.99 or included in a bundle of six, with two of each dragon, for $83.99. The toys are set to release in March 2023.
