Directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley from a screenplay they co-wrote with Michael Gilio, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves follows a charming thief named Edgin Darvis (Chris Pine) as he forms a band of unlikely adventurers to undertake an epic heist to retrieve his daughter and the Tablet of Resurrection from his former ally, Forge Fitzwilliam (Hugh Grant). However, things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people, leading them on a quest to stop the Red Wizard and save the Forgotten Realms.

Besides Pine and Grant, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves stars Michelle Rodriguez as Holga Kilgore, a barbarian; Justice Smith as Simon Aumar, a sorcerer; and Sophia Lillis as Doric, a tiefling druid; with Regé-Jean Page as Xenk Yendar, a paladin. Honor Among Thieves also features Daisy Head as Sofina, Jason Wong as Dralas and Chloe Coleman as Edgwin's daughter Kira.

DnD Struggled at the Box Office

Despite Dungeons & Dragons' critical acclaim, the film has struggled at both the domestic and international box office. At the time of writing, Honor Among Thieves has grossed just $194 million worldwide from a $150 million budget after a month in theaters. Reception to Dungeons & Dragons was very good, with 90 percent of critics and 93 percent of audiences leaving a favorable review for the fantasy comedy film. Some fans have speculated that the film's release date impacted its box office potential since Honor Among Thieves was playing in theaters at the same time as John Wick: Chapter 4 and The Super Mario Bros. Movie -- both of which exceeded expectations and became major box office smashes for their respective studios.

What's Next for DnD?

Paramount has not announced an Honor Among Thieves sequel at this time. Instead, the franchise will continue on television with a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series on Paramount+. Deadpool producer Drew Crevello is attached to serve as showrunner on the series, which hails from the mind of Rawson Marshall Thurber (Red Notice). In addition to creating the eight-episode D&D series, Thurber wrote the script for the show's first episode and is expected to direct the pilot.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is still playing in theaters. The fantasy comedy film arrives on Video-On-Demand and Digital on May 2.
