While the characters are united by their focus on pulling off a major heist (and then helping stop the end of The Forgotten Realms), Honor Among Thieves' cast as reassured audience that the party aren't the best heroes. "I responded to that loser-ish thing about this little band. Maybe that's an English predilection. We love a loser."

While many fans are growing excited for Honor Among Thieves as its release date looms, recent controversies surrounding Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro may impact the film's box office performance. After the companies announced significant changes to Dungeons & Dragons' Open Gaming License, many fans have protested the amendments as anti-consumer. This prompted many enthusiasts to call for a boycott of all Wizards of the Coast products, including the movie. Despite apologizing for the OGL changes and back-pedaling on some of the more notorious tweaks, fans are still altogether not satisfied with the updated rules.
