Paramount Pictures unveiled the first official images of the cast of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves in costume.

As revealed in a TikTok posted by Variety, character posters for the highly-anticipated fantasy movie were shown off to fans in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. The images spotlight stars Michelle Rodriguez, Chris Pine, Justice Smith, Hugh Grant, Rege-Jean Page and Sophia Lillis sporting their costumes. While little is known about the movie's plot, the posters do reveal the roles the characters will likely play in the story. Given Rodriguez's armor and the ax symbol next to her name, she'll serve as the party's barbarian while Pine will act as a bard, equipped with a lute.

Given that Smith brandishes some kind of staff, fans are assuming that the Detective Pikachu star will be acting as some kind of sorcerer while the symbol on Page's poster suggests he's a paladin. Finally, Lillis' outfit indicates that she's acting as a druid. Grant has already been confirmed to be playing the film's villainous Forge Fletcher but specific details about his character have yet to be clarified.

Details on Honor Among Thieves' story remain scarce but a brief synopsis teases plenty of shenanigans that Dungeons & Dragons players will undoubtedly recognize. The plot revolves around a common criminal who attempts to build a crew of daring adventures to steal back a fortune that was taken from him during a failed heist.

In terms of the movie's tone, fans of the iconic roleplaying game can expect a mixture of high fantasy action and light-hearted comedy, a decision that was purposefully chosen to honor the core experience of playing D&D. "We want it to be fun," explained writer/director Jonathan Goldstein. "It's not an out and out comedy, but it is an action-fantasy movie with a lot of comedic elements and characters we hope people will really get into and enjoy watching their adventures."

Pine has shared similar sentiments about the film, noting that he sees it as a mashup between very different fantasy stories. "The way that I've been describing it, it's like Game of Thrones mixed with a little Princess Bride, just a smidge of [Monty Python and the] Holy Grail; it's somewhere in that ballpark," Pine said.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves premieres on March 3, 2023.
