The final trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves spotlights the film's positive reviews, with special mention going to Chris Pine's very specific performance.

Per the promotional video, which features both new and old footage of the fantasy action-adventure movie, one of the quotes included speaks to Pine's portrayal of a cheeky bard who stumbles into trouble. "The most Chris Pine a Chris Pine performance has been in a long time," reads the message from reviewer Jacob Hall. Beyond this, the trailer also reveals new iteractions between the movie's core party, several gigantic battles involving myriad beasts and plenty of powerful spells wreaking havoc in battle.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is certainly not the first project to try capturing the qualities of the role-playing game and transform them for the big screen. However, unlike many of its direct-to-video adaptations, the latest movie has earned glowing reviews for its sharp writing, compelling characters and interesting world-build. Beyond Pine, the Honor Among Thieves also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Regé-Jean Page, Hugh Grant and Sophia Lillis.

Adapting Dungeons & Dragon's Expansive World

While many fans of the role-playing game have openly expressed their excitement for a new Dungeons & Dragons film, many were concerned about the direction it would take with the story. Enthusiasts were concerned it would adopt a "Jumanji approach," mitigating the fantastical elements to the imagination of a group of players around the table. Directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley addressed these worries, promising that their film wouldn't focus on people playing a game. "We wanted to create a movie that could stand on its own, even if you stripped away all the fantastical elements; a movie that could work in another genre," Goldstein said.

The Dungeons & Dragons movie will be filled with plenty high stakes action and swashbuckling adventure but one important part of the story is comedy, a trait the directors have promised they haven't glossed over. "We never want to go too far where it becomes a spoof of fantasy films, but we also wanted to be able to pivot from something creepy and traditional fantasy to an absurd, almost Monty Python-type sequence," explained Goldstein.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves arrives in theaters on March 31.
