There are 13 main classes (14 when counting the unofficial Blood Hunter) and even more subclasses, leaving many options for players to experience. Furthermore, there are 16 Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personalities. From the jack-of-all-trades Virtuoso to the strategizing Architect, each type has unique skills and attributes. The same holds for the various D&D classes and subclasses.

18 INTJ (Architect): Mastermind Rogues Are One Step Ahead

Architects are tacticians with plans for every scenario mapped out from the beginning. They are rarely surprised, and their solutions are often creative. Their strong intuition, as well as their analytical style of thinking and judging, affords them this talent.

While many rogues are highly Intelligent and practical, as this class focuses on exploration and subterfuge, Mastermind rogues are the most clever. At third level, Mastermind rogues gain the ability Master of Tactics, allowing them the Help action as a bonus action. Thus, they can do the work of two players, assuming offensive and support roles. One of the most iconic D&D character archetypes is that of the chaotic neutral rogue, but Masterminds are typically more thoughtful.

17 INTP (Logician): School Of Transmutation Wizards Enjoy Experimentation

Logicians are naturally curious about the world, valuing experimentation and observation. They like to think outside the box and forge new paths, solutions, and viewpoints. Where Architects constantly make judgments and assess their environment, Logicians perceive and absorb the information.

Wizards are an optimal D&D spellcasting class. Like Logicians, wizards hunger for knowledge, but Transmutation wizards have an extra investment in how the world works. This school of magic allows characters to shape matter and reality. Thanks to their detailed attention to life, they can transform objects and, at higher levels, living beings into new things.

16 ENTJ (Commander): Battle Master Fighters Always Have A Plan

Commanders are natural leaders and a boon to any group. Like all Analyst personality styles, they are intuitive and intelligent. Commanders make quick and decisive judgments, a valuable asset in a leader.

Fighters are one of D&D's strongest combat-oriented classes. One of the most iconic subclasses is the Battle Master, whose abilities include various combat Maneuvers that can help them strategize in a fight and dominate their enemies. One such Maneuver, Rally, allows the fighter to inspire their comrades and give them extra health, which is a testament to the Battle Master's aptitude for leadership.

15 ENTP (Debater): Warlocks Have The Right Charisma Stats

A fiend patron warlock in DnD surrounded by fiery magic.

Debaters embrace challenges and often find crafty solutions to them. They are extroverted enough to defend themselves but sufficiently analytical to back up their actions.

A warlock must constantly maintain a balance between their goals or values and that of their patron. This tightrope walk proves especially tricky if players choose one of the nine D&D alignments opposite their patron's. Thus, like Debaters, they are always in for a challenge and must rely on their wit and charm to appease their power source and get what they want. Warlocks frequently have a high Charisma score (their spellcasting ability stat), mimicking the Debater's outgoing nature.

14 INFJ (Advocate): Circle Of The Moon Druids Are Mysterious

Advocates are a rare personality type deeply connected to their intuition and emotions but with losing their ability to make sound judgments. They tend to be mysterious but optimistic. They have strong core values, suggesting their formidable integrity.

Circle of the Moon druids keep to themselves, not unlike Advocates, and are one of the most mystical of the druid circles. They also act as mediators between the natural world and the party, echoing the Advocate's status within the Diplomat personality style. Circle of Moon druids care about the wilderness they guard and won't stand for anyone to disrespect it.

13 INFP (Mediator): Life Domain Clerics Are Natural Healers

Mediators are nurturing souls who prize life and others' well-being. Sometimes, this is to the detriment of their own. At times, they get lost in their inner worlds, but they are still highly perceptive of their environment.

Life Domain clerics embody the Mediator's need for safety and positivity. Their many features include Preserve Life, Blessed Healer, and Supreme Healing focus on supporting their allies and ensuring everyone is unharmed. One of the many deity categories that Life Domain clerics often adhere to are those of healing, home, and hearth.

12 ENFJ (Protagonist): Ancestral Guardian Barbarians Are Passionate Souls

A Path of the Totem Warrior Barbarian in DnD

Protagonists are passionate about defending those in need on top of the intuition and quick judgment required to take swift action. They rarely shy away from what's difficult if it's the right path.

Barbarians are a great D&D class for beginners. Though many players focus on the class' trademark Rage feature, subclasses like the Ancestral Guardian shine in their connection to their communities and devotion to protecting others. Unlike the Battle Master, barbarians are less inclined to ruminate over battle analytics but are effective nonetheless.

11 ENFP (Campaigner): College Of Eloquence Bards Have Silver Tongues

A bard playing music on the back of a unicorn in DnD

Campaigners are one of the most extroverted personality types and are free-spirited. They value connecting with others, having fun, and experiencing new things. In addition, they also have a philosophical side.

One of the best D&D classes for utility is the bard. Bards are often outgoing and adventurous, which suits the Campaigner well. Furthermore, College of Eloquence bards have a way with words and draw their magic from their speeches. Bards are clever and excel in their Persuasion abilities, providing an excellent reflection of the Campaigner.

10 ISTJ (Logistician): School Of Abjuration Wizards Are Practical Casters

A wizard in the DnD 5e Player's Handbook

Logisticians, often confused with Logicians (INTP), are one of the Sentinels of the personality types. Like their counterparts, they are logical, analytical, and methodical in their endeavors. However, they are also more likely to get involved in their communities. Their calm rationality is a rock many rely on, and they are more grounded than Logicians.

Abjuration wizards are more focused on wards and protections rather than experimentation, as the Transmutation wizards are. These wizards are highly Intelligent but practical. Thus, they are strikingly similar to the Logistician description.

9 ISFJ (Defender): Oath Of Devotion Paladins Help Others In Need

8 D&D Oath of Devotion Paladin

The Defender personality types are known for doing what their name suggests. They have a strong sense of obligation and play by the rules. As a result, they adhere to laws and deadlines. Furthermore, they are dedicated to helping others and to their responsibilities.

Oath of Devotion paladins have a strong sense of justice and morality. They are just as committed to their vows as they are to those they hope to protect. Marvel's Captain America is a character who could inspire a D&D paladin, and the Oath of Devotion fits him and other Defender types.

7 ESTJ (Executive): Oath Of The Crown Paladins Are Dedicated Traditionalists

Executives are traditionalists and value following the rules. They are known for their honesty and integrity. Being a more extroverted personality type, they not only bring communities together but provide the glue that maintains them.

In older iterations of D&D, paladins had to take the lawful good alignment, meaning they were devoted to their sense of morality and hated straying from the regulations their communities provided. While this is no longer a requirement, many paladins still adhere to this build. Oath of the Crown paladins are famous for their loyalty to their monarchs or nations. Their Divine Allegiance feature exemplifies this trait.

5 ESFJ (Consul): Light Domain Clerics Will Protect Others At Any Cost

Consuls prize their communities and enjoy being surrounded by loved ones. They are one of the most hospitable and accommodating of the MBTI® personality types. They are in touch with their emotions and are deeply empathetic, meaning they are incredibly perceptive of others' feelings.

Light Domain clerics shine brilliantly. They are similar to the Life Domain clerics for valuing other people's safety but take a more active role in protecting others, fighting with radiant energy rather than primarily healing their fallen allies from the sidelines.

4 ISTP (Virtuoso): Artificers Are Multitalented Innovators

Virtuosos are masters of their arts. They love taking on new hobbies, learning how things work, and creating. Furthermore, Virtuosos are astoundingly brilliant and adaptable. They are often hands-on learners and enjoy an element of trial and failure in their creative process.

Artificers are the perfect D&D representation of Virtuosos and have many features that prove this. Their Right Tool for the Job, Flash of Genius, and Tool Expertise are all elements that real-life Virtuosos seem to have. The artificer skill set helps them build innovations and tear things apart to figure out what makes them tick.

3 ISFP (Adventurer): Horizon Walker Rangers Or Inquisitive Rogues Explore The Overlooked

Horizon Walker Ranger D&D 5e

Adventurers are among the most creative personality types and are one of the four Explorers. They are curious souls who value new experiences and don't mind change. They don't appreciate manipulation and prefer everyone do what makes them happy.

Horizon Walker rangers can straddle different planes of existence, which is a testament to their devotion to adventure. On the other hand, Inquisitive rogues are great at Investigation and love exploration. Either option would make a great Adventurer character in their ways, and both dedicate themselves to discoveries and experiences.

2 ESTP (Entrepreneur): Aberrant Mind Sorcerers Know What Others Are Thinking

Sorcerer Divine Soul

Entrepreneurs are charismatic and magnetic. It is hard to miss them when they walk into a room, as they bring a gravitational pull. They don't mind being centerstage and the focus of the conversation.

As Charisma casters, sorcerers naturally exude Entrepreneur-like qualities. Sorcerers inherit their magic rather than making pacts or studying for them. Aberrant Mind sorcerers have abilities that allow them to listen in on what others are thinking, and Entrepreneurs are so perceptive that they often seem to have that quality. Plus, they often share excellent persuasion skills.

1 ESFP (Entertainer): College Of Lore Or Glamour Bards Are A Blast At Parties

Entertainers are unafraid to be in the limelight and enjoy performing for others. They are among the most optimistic of the personality types. Entertainers are famous for their high energy, spontaneity, and adventurousness.

There obvious choice for an Entertainer's D&D class is the bard. Bards are among the best support classes in D&D, and College of Lore Bards are an iconic build. College of Lore bards love telling stories, engaging with others, and sharing their passion. Meanwhile, College of Glamour bards are renowned for their performances, as seen through their Enthralling Performance feature.
