The HBO Max pilot only had two days of shooting left when the flow of production shutdowns began, but Duvernay and her team were confident that they could wrap up the episode while also keeping everyone healthy and safe.

Based on the comic by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli, DMZ is set in the near future where America has been engulfed by civil war and Manhattan has become a demilitarized zone, isolated from the rest of the world. The series ran from 2005 to 2012 for 72 issues. Dawson will play the lead Alma Ortego, a medic who helps save lives while searching for her son.

Directed by Ava DuVernay and written by Roberto Patino, a premiere date for DMZ has not yet been officially announced. HBO Max is expected to launch in May.
