With the opening of Pandora — The World of “Avatar” less than a month away, Walt Disney World Resort has debuted the first look at Na’vi Shaman of Songs, a central character in the Na’vi River Journey boat ride attraction.
Inspired of course by James Cameron’s 2009 blockbuster “Avatar,” the new themed area at Disney’s Animal Kingdom re-creates parts of the fictional exoplanetary moon Pandora.
While Na’vi Shaman of Songs may look and move like a live performer, it’s actually a Audio-Animatronics figure, characterized as the most complicated ever created by Walt Disney Imagineering. The shaman is described as the highlight of the Na’vi River Journey family attraction, which takes guests on a journey through a bioluminescent rainforest.
Announced in 2011, Pandora — The World of “Avatar” also includes the “Avatar” Flight of Passage, in which guests learn to fly on a Banshee, the floating mountains of the Valley of Mo’ara, a restaurant and gift shop.
This new glimpse of the theme land arrives just a week after Fox confirmed release dates for all four of Cameron’s long-awaited sequels to “Avatar”: Dec. 18, 2020, Dec. 17, 2021, Dec. 20, 2024 and Dec. 19, 2025.
The highest-grossing film of all time, Fox’s “Avatar” grossed nearly $2.8 billion worldwide, and was nominated for nine Academy Awards (it won three, for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects). Pandora — The World of “Avatar” opens May 27.
