Disney/Marvel’s “Big Hero 6” wins Best Animated Feature Academy Award

“Big Hero 6,” the film based on the Marvel Comic book, has nabbed a top prize tonight at the Academy Awards tonight, beating out some stiff competition for Best Animated Feature film. The full list of nominees is below.

  • Big Hero 6
  • The Boxtrolls
  • How to Train Your Dragon 2
  • Song of the Sea
  • The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

Directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, “Big Hero 6” is based on the Marvel Comics team created by Man of Action’s Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau. The win completed a rare sweep of the Oscar animation categories for the Disney Animation Studios, which also won the Academy Award for short animated film for its film “Feast.”

“Big Hero 6” was also the only comic book based movie to take home a prize. Marvel Studios’ films “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” lost out on the special effects prizes (as did Fox’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past”) to Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” while “Guardians” also lost the makeup category to Wes Anderson’s “Grand Budapest Hotel.”
