Disneyland's plans to reopen in July as coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions are lifted in California doesn't sit well with its unions, which plan a parade in protest on Saturday.

Concerned about the safety of its members, the Coalition of Resort Labor Unions announced a caravan from 10 a.m. to noon around the park, inviting members to sign up via Facebook.

Disney plans to open sections of the resort in stages, with July 9 for the Downtown shopping district and July 23 for the Paradise Pier Hotel and Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. July 17 is the target to reopen Disney California Adventure Park and Disneyland Park, which has been closed since March.

CRLU posted an open letter to California Gov. Gavin Newsom on June 18 stating, "We are not yet convinced that it is safe to reopen the parks on Disney's rapid timetable." The group represents 17,000 employees in 12 unions. Some employees have responded positively toward their unions' move, while others expressed concerns.

Disney responded with its own message on the Disney Parks blog from Chief Medical Officer Pamela Hymel, stating the company is introducing multiple safety measures for guests and staff.
