A guest managed to pull a prop version of the Excalibur sword from the stone in Disneyland. The prop, which  next to King Arthur's Carousel in Fantasyland, was reported missing from the stone on January 12 by WDW News Today. A later story confirmed that the sword had been returned to the stone.

The OCR reports that a "close adviser to the New King of Disneyland told WDW News Today that 'my friend Sam' broke the sword during a visit on Jan. 8." Eyewitnesses say that the man "literally ripped it out." Sam's friend elaborated, saying, "It was his first time at Disney and he's a pretty buff dude. I told him if he pulled it out he'd win a prize and he just used brute force I guess."

Apparently, Sam didn't just pull the sword from the stone, he broke it. Disneyland employees rushed over to take the "broken and jagged" sword, taping over the hole in the anvil to prevent visitors from cutting their fingers on the broken blade.

The Excalibur prop at Disneyland pays homage to Disney's 1963 animated film, The Sword in the Stone. The movie was an adaptation of the classic Arthurian story, which said whoever pulled the sword of Excalibur from the stone would be the new king.
