Disney and Lucasfilm aren't wasting any time getting the hype machine rolling for their new animated series Star Wars: Rebels.
After Disney bought the company, it was only a matter of time before the plug was pulled on Cartoon Network's Star Wars: The Clone Wars and a new series was put into development. Rebels was officially announced in May and will premiere sometime next fall. Here's the teaser trailer that aired last night on Disney XD:
As you can see, the trailer reveals very little about the show aside from a look at a CG Star Destroyer, another view of the show's logo and the following vague description: "To battle the Empire, a rebel alliance will form, the Jedi will rise and you will know the power of ... The Force."
The series takes place between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV - A New Hope, and covers the span of time in which Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker grew up before becoming intergalactic freedom fighters. When last we heard, a group of actors and actresses were in the running for the voice cast, including Freddie Prinze Jr., David Oyelowo, Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray and Steven Jay Blum.
Star Wars Rebels is scheduled to debut next fall.
