Disney shut down its many parks across the globe when the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic reached dangerous heights. Now the House of Mouse, like many business, are looking at when and how to properly reopen. Part of its answer is a phased reopening of its properties.
Walt Disney World announced that Disney Springs will begin reopening on May 20, starting with third-party operated stores and restaurants, while "the rest of Walt Disney World Resort will remain closed, including theme parks and Disney Resort hotels." In order to ensure the health and safety of the park's guests, Disney explained that Disneyworld will be implementing special safety measures, such as, "Increased cleaning procedures, the use of appropriate face coverings by both Cast Members and Guests, limited-contact Guest Services and additional safety training for Cast Members."
Additionally, Disney Springs will operate at limited capacity, operating hours and parking, presumably similar to those announced for other Disney theme parks. Disneyland Shanghai, for example, recently announced plans to operate at 30 percent capacity, with the use of a special QR code to ensure only healthy visitors enter the entertainment complex.
These precautions are being taken as advised by others. Disney explained, "We will apply learnings and ideas from leaders in the health and travel industries," adding, "We're also talking to our unions as we prepare for some Cast Members to return to work."
