Disney To Expand Tron Universe With Uprising Animated Series

Disney will expand its Tron universe with a new animated series set to debut in summer 2012 on Disney XD, the entertainment giant's boy-centric cable channel.

Variety reports that Tron: Uprising will be executive produced and directed by Charlie Bean (Samurai Jack), with Tron: Legacy writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz serving as executive producers. Tron: Legacy co-producer Justin Springer is also involved.

The voice cast includes Elijah Wood, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens and Lance Henriksen, with Bruce Boxleitner reprising his role as Tron.

Tron: Uprising will mark the franchise's second venture into television. Disney XD announced in March that it will air a 10-part Tron micro-series in fall 2011.

Tron: Legacy, the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic, opens on Dec. 17.
