"In an abundance of caution and in the best interest of our guests and employees, we are proceeding with the closure of our theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Paris Resort, beginning at the close of business on Sunday, March 15, through the end of the month," the company said in a statement.

The closure also applies to Disney Cruise Line, which will dock all ships starting on Saturday, March 14.  The hotels at both parks will remain open until further notice. Disney Springs at Walt Disney World and Disney Village at Disneyland Paris will also remain open.

Disney emphasized that it would pay all its park and cruise employees during the shutdown.

Disney is not the only company sealing the gates of its amusement parks. Universal Studios Hollywood in California will also be closed until the end of March.

Disney World is the latest victim to fall the coronavirus outbreak. Movie studios are pushing back release dates for major films and Broadway just announced a 30-day closure. The NBA and NHL have also suspended their seasons, while the MLB has pushed off opening day.
