Disney's Little Mermaid Remake Is Baiting Harry Styles for Prince Eric

Harry Styles is in talks to star opposite Halle Bailey in Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is currently hoping to bring Styles aboard the remake of the animated classic as the love interest, Prince Eric.

Beginning his life as a member of the band One Direction before spinning off into a solo career, Styles has begun to venture into acting, but this would be his most high-profile role to date.

With Bailey as Ariel, the eponymous Little Mermaid, and Styles as Eric, it's clear Disney wants performers who can both act and sing, so while some live-action remakes have forgone the songs of the animated originals, that doesn't appear to be the case here. Interestingly, Eric didn't have any songs in the cartoon but expect that to change for the upcoming movie.

Bailey and Styles will be joined by Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay as Scuttle and Flounder, respectively. Meanwhile, Melissa McCartney is also in talks to play the villainous Ursula. Aside from the titular role, though, Disney hasn't announced anything official.
