Disney's The Lion King Is Already Breaking Records

Even though The Lion King opens on July 19, tickets for the film are already disappearing online, with Fandango and Atom Tickets (sites that sell advance movie tickets) reporting impressive sales figures for the latest Disney adaptation.

Fandango editor Erik Davis reported that The Lion King sold the most tickets out of any live-action Disney adaptation in the first 24 hours of advance ticket sales. The film is behind only Avengers: Endgame in terms of first-day sales on the site this year.

The initial storm of pre-sales shows the level of excitement that audiences have for the upcoming return to the Pride Lands. While it is unlikely to top the juggernaut that is Avengers: Endgame, The Lion King is shaping up to be the latest in a line of box office success for Disney.

Opening July 19, director Jon Favreau's The Lion King features the voices of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Kani, John Oliver, Florence Kasumba, Eric André, Keegan-Michael Key, JD McCrary, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and James Earl Jones.
