Even Disney Chief Executive Officer Bob Chapek has been surprised by the enormous success Disney+.

"What we didn’t realize was the non-family appeal that a service like Disney Plus would have," Chapek said at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecommunications Conference. "In fact, over 50% of our global marketplace [subscribers] don’t have kids, and that is the big difference."

"When 50% of the [subscribers to] Disney Plus don’t have kids," Chapek continued. "You really have the opportunity now to think much more broadly about the nature of your content."

Disney+ has continuously impressed with its increasing level of subscribers. While Disney originally projected to hit 90 million users by 2024, the service hit 94.9 million subscribers by the end of 2020, just 13 months after it launched.

Given its success, analysts have become confident in Disney+'s long-term prospects. One report has even predicted that Disney+ will surpass Netflix in terms of overall subscribers in 2026, with the service projected to amass 294 million subscribers compared to Netflix's projected base of 286 million subscribers.

Disney+ will attempt to maintain this early momentum with its upcoming slate of high-profile shows, which includes The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and The Book of Boba Fett.
