Disney has brought "new hope" to Star Wars fandom with a supercut video of the galaxy far, far away in honor of May the 4th.
The supercut was posted on the official Star Wars YouTube and begins with a young Anakin Skywalker discussing the size of the galaxy with Qui-Gon Jinn -- a reminder of where the nine-movie Skywalker Saga began with the story of Anakin in The Phantom Menace. The action then jumps to the introduction of Rey in The Force Awaken and brings the story full-circle.
Although most of the action is focused on Episode I-IX, the video shows there's much more to the franchise. Aside from the main nine movies, there are notable scenes of Jyn and Galen Erso from Rogue One: A Star Story, the fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano from The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels' Ezra Bridger. The supercut also covers the new addition of Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian, Ron Howard's Solo: A Star Wars Story and the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game. The 100-second clip then ends with an emotive shot of Luke and Rey from The Rise of Skywalker.
Notably, at the core of the video is the message of hope and helping those less fortunate. Disney's tribute has covered the heroes of Star Wars and skirted around villains Darth Vader, Supreme Leader Snoke, Maul and Emperor Palpatine.
This Star Wars Day is a big one for the galaxy, as it marks the official conclusion of the Skywalker Saga. In fact, Disney+ has dropped J.J. Abrams' 2019 movie early on the streaming service. May the 4th has also brought Dave Filoni's The Clone Wars to a close with a climactic finale that's been 12 years in the making.
The Star Wars Day celebrations don't end there, though. As well as the supercut, there's a glossy new poster covering the franchise's history and the special release of a Doctor Aphra digital comic. Disney is also at the helm of a new era for Star Wars and is powering ahead with projects including a Cassian Andor series, an Obi-Wan Kenobi series and a mysterious female-led Disney+ show.
Although May the 4th is the end of the road for several branches of the Star Wars universe, Disney has plans to continue the story in movies, TV and beyond.
