Three decades after the release of "The Black Cauldron," Disney has reacquired the rights to the children's fantasy novels on which it is based.

Variety reports the studio is in early development on an adaptation of “The Chronicles of Prydain,” the five-book series by author Lloyd Alexander that draws upon Welsh mythology to tell the coming-of-age story of Taran, a lowly assistant pig-keeper who dreams of becoming a hero.

The first two novels, "The Book of Three" and "The Black Cauldron," were previously adapted by Disney by as the 1985 animated fantasy adventure "The Black Cauldron," in which the evil Horned King tries to secure a magical cauldron that will allow him to conquer the world.
