An episode of the upcoming Marvel Studios television series What If...? may see Thor throwing an intergalactic party that could bring the end of the world as we know it.

As reported by The Illuminerdi, the episode, which focuses on "Party Thor," reverses the events of 2011's Thor, with Asgardian God of Thunder never being banished to Earth and finding his humility. Instead, Thor reportedly travels to Midgard to throw a massive party with drastic implications.

In the first Thor movie, the eponymous superhero is banished to Earth by his father Odin after he puts Asgard on the brink of war with Jotunheim — the realm of the giants. The movie sees the hero stripped of his powers and hammer on his coronation day and forced to prove his worth and earn the throne.

The fourth MCU series to see its debut in 2021, What If...? explores what could have happened if major moments in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe occurred differently. It will be the first animated title in the cinematic universe and is scheduled to premiere in August with a 10-episode season.

While specific episodes' plots have not yet been detailed, Marvel has teased the premise of a few of them, including "Party Thor," who was first teased in leaked merchandise images. One episode of What If...? will be an alternate take on Captain America: The First Avenger and sees Peggy Carter absorbing the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers. Another finds the role of Guardians of the Galaxy's Star-Lord taken on by T'Challa, better known as the Black Panther, suggesting that the Ravagers pick up the Wakandan prince instead of Peter Quill. One other episode will adapt Marvel Zombies, a Marvel Comics miniseries where the heroes of the Marvel Universe are turned into undead creatures. This will include a confrontation between Bucky Barnes, known also as the Winter Soldier, and a zombified Captain America.

Created by A.C. Bradley and directed by Bryan Andrews, What If...? stars Jeffrey Wright, Samuel L. Jackson, Hayley Atwell, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Hiddleston, Michael Rooker, Chris Hemsworth, Dominic Cooper, Jeremy Renner and more. The series premieres in August on Disney+.
