Disney+ alters another Marvel series, this time editing an episode of The Punisher to remove a tribute to the late Stan Lee.

A dedication to Lee originally appeared at the end of the series' Season 2 finale, "The Whirlwind," but ComicBook.com reports that this memorial tribute was removed. The service also made a similar cut to Luke Cage, excising a memorial to Reg E. Cathey, who played Luke Cage's father -- Reverend James Lucas -- in the series. Despite making these changes, the streaming platform apparently left the dedication to Lee shown at the end of Jessica Jones Season 3 intact. Disney and Marvel Studios have yet to offer a formal explanation regarding the decision to omit the tributes to Lee and Cathey from The Punisher and Luke Cage, respectively.

The PunisherLuke Cage and Jessica Jones originally released on Netflix alongside their shared universe's other Marvel series, including Daredevil, Iron Fist and The Defenders. All six interconnected shows moved to Disney+ in March 2022, where they were rebranded as "The Defenders Saga." Eagle-eyed fans noticed soon after that the newly-uploaded entries in The Defenders Saga no longer included the Netflix logo at the start of each episode. Although this tweak was rolled out seamlessly for most episodes, in one episode of Jessica Jones, evidence of the rival streaming platform's name was still visible in the opening credits.

Disney+ not only made edits to these series though, but its streaming platform as well. The shows' mature ratings and content (including more graphic depictions of violence and sexual situations) required the streaming platform to revamp its existing parental controls. Despite this overhaul, The Parents Television and Media Council nevertheless criticized Disney for adding these series to its content library.

Disney+ also came under fire for making post-release changes to its original Marvel programming too. In March 2022, it was discovered that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had apparently been censored to tone down the violence in the series' third episode, "Power Broker." Sources close to the streaming platform later insisted that reports of intentional censorship were inaccurate. These insiders alleged that that the alternate version of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's third episode was uploaded in error and claimed that the original, uncensored version would be reuploaded soon.

One of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier actors at the heart of the censorship controversy, Olli Haaskivi, made light of the affair on Instagram. Haaskivi shared comparison stills from the episode of his character, Dr. Nagel, with one image markedly more bloody than the other. "Glad to know these gorgeous photos of me have had a lot of traction on the internet today...," read Haaskivi's accompanying caption.

The entire Defenders Saga and its various shows are now streaming on Disney+.
