The Walt Disney Company revealed the price of its new ad-supported Disney+ tier.

The company announced today that its cheaper, ad-supported tier will launch Dec. 8. in the U.S. Disney+ Basic, the new plan that will include ads, will run $7.99/ per month. The current tier without ads, which currently carries the $7.99/month price tag, will rebrand as Disney+ Premium and bump up to $10.99/month. For those who elect to get Disney+ Basic, they can expect about four minutes of ads per hour, broken up into 15- and 30-second spots.

Disney also announced some price changes for its other streaming services. On Oct. 10, the price of Hulu with ads will jump from $6.99 to $7.99 per month, with the ad-free tier changing from $12.99 to $14.99. The Disney Bundle in the U.S., which includes Hulu with ads, Disney+ without ads, and ESPN+, will increase a dollar to $14.99 per month. The premium version of the bundle, meanwhile, will keep its $19.99/month price. Finally, ESPN+ will increase on Aug. 23 from $6.99 to $9.99 per month.

Disney+ Will Finally Have Ads

"Since its launch, advertisers have been clamoring for the opportunity to be part of Disney+ and not just because there’s a growing demand for more streaming inventory," Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution President of Advertising Rita Ferro added. "Disney+ with advertising will offer marketers the most premium environment in streaming with our most beloved brands, Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel and National Geographic. I can’t wait to share more with advertisers at the Upfront."

The ad-supported offering is part of Disney's overall goal to reach 230-260 million Disney+ subscribers by 2024. By the end of 2021, Disney+ had garnered a total of 129.8 million subscribers, exceeding its growth expectations overall.

News of the new Disney+ price point comes shortly after both Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm announced numerous new offerings coming to the streaming service. Fans can soon expect the return of The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Visions along with the debuts of Andor and Ahsoka. Marvel, meanwhile, recently launched a series of I Am Groot shorts and is preparing for the premiere of She-Hulk. Next year, Phase 5 of the MCU will be in full swing on the big screen and Disney+, with the latter bringing the shows Echo, Secret Invasion, and more to the small screen.
