Disney is developing a National Treasure TV series for Disney+.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed this development while speaking with Collider, though his comments made it clear that this newly announced TV show would be co-existing with the upcoming National Treasure 3 rather than serving as a replacement for it.

"We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen," Bruckheimer explained, "Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active….The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast." In regards to what stage of development the National Treasure TV show is in, Bruckheimer said, "The television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes."

This announcement continues the franchise's expansion after Chris Bremner was reportedly hired to write a script for National Treasure 3 in January. That feature film followup and this new Disney+ TV program would be extensions of National Treasure and its 2007 sequel National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Both films followed the exploits of treasure hunter Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) and his companions, who traveled the globe looking for treasure tied to famous historical landmarks and events.

At the time of this writing, no casting information or projected release date are available for Disney+'s National Treasure series.
