Disney has bought the film rights to The Stuff of Legend, the fantasy graphic novel by Mike Raicht, Brian Smith and Charles Paul Wilson III, Deadline reports. Commercials and video director Pete Candeland is attached to direct from a script by Abduction screenwriter Shawn Christensen.
Published by Th3rd World Studios, The Stuff of Legend is set in 1944, when a boy is abducted from his Brooklyn bedroom by the Boogeyman and taken to the realm known as The Dark. Led by a teddy bear named Max and a toy soldier known as the Colonel, the toys rally to face off against the Boogeyman and his army -- a legion of the boy's bitter, forgotten toys -- and rescue the the child.
According to Deadline, Disney plans a live-action movie set in a CGI world, similar to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.
