Percy Jackson and the Olympians has added two more Olympians to its growing Season 1 cast.

In an "announcement as [fire/hot] as the River Phlegethon," the official Twitter account for the upcoming Disney+ series has revealed that Jay Duplass and Timothy Omundson have joined Percy Jackson as the Greek gods Hades and Hephaestus, respectively. The series has now cast five of the 12 Olympians, with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Adam Copeland and Jason Mantzoukas having previously been announced as Hermes, the messenger of the gods; Ares, the god of war; and Dionysus/Mr. D, the god of wine and the head of Camp Half-Blood.

Omundson has already responded to the casting news, tweeting, "I must say, I do enjoy playing (a) god." The actor, who has a history of playing supernatural or godly figures, is best known for several supporting roles in television, most notably Sean Potter on Judging Amy, Eli on Xena: Warrior Princess, Carlton Lassiter in Psych, King Richard on Galavant and Cain in Supernatural.

Duplass, who retweeted the initial Percy Jackson casting post, is a director, writer, producer and actor. He is perhaps best known for his roles as Josh Pfefferman in Prime Video's Transparent, Duncan Deslaurier in Fox/Hulu's The Mindy Project and Jesse Bloom in the second season of Industry.

Walker Scobell Is Percy Jackson

The Adam Project breakout star Walker Scobell leads the cast of Percy Jackson as the titular character, a pre-teen outcast who discovers that he is the son of Poseidon, the Greek God of the sea. He will be joined throughout the first season by Leah Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri, who play Percy Jackson's best friends Annabeth Chase and Grover, respectively. The rest of the series' ensemble cast includes Dior Goodjohn, Glynn Turman, Virginia Kull, Megan Mullally, Timm Sharp, Suzanne Cryer and Jessica Parker Kennedy.

The first season of Percy Jackson will consist of eight episodes and adapt the first novel in Rick Riordan's Camp Half-Blood Chronicles franchise. First released in 2005, The Lightning Thief follows 12-year-old demigod Percy Jackson as he is accused by the Greek god Zeus of stealing his lightning bolt. To quell tensions among the Big Three -- Zeus, Poseidon and Hades -- Percy, Annabeth and Grover embark on a cross-country quest to track down the lost lightning bolt and restore order to Mount Olympus.

To tide fans over until Percy Jackson and the Olympians' 2024 debut on Disney+, Riordan has announced a new in-universe Percy Jackson book that will release in September 2023. Titled Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods, the upcoming novel will find Percy preparing for college when he is called upon to retrieve a missing artifact. "It's not meant to be a world-ending adventure," Riordan said when the novel was first announced, "it's just a day in the life of a demigod."

Percy Jackson premieres on Disney+ in early 2024.
