This is where the fun begins.

Star Wars Prequel Trilogy star Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Darth Vader in the upcoming Disney+ event series starring Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

During her presentation at Disney Investor Day 2020, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy officially announced that Christensen would be returning as Darth Vader for the Obi-Wan television show, teasing a "rematch" between the Dark Lord of the Sith and his former Jedi Master. Rumors of Christensen's return had previously surfaced earlier this year.

Christensen first played the Anakin Skywalker in 2002's Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, subsequently reprising the role for 2005's Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. The latter film saw Anakin's fall from grace, as he turned to the dark side of the Force and became Darth Vader, the infamous villain of the original Star Wars trilogy. The film's climax saw the newly-christened Vader battling Obi-Wan on the lava planet of Mustafar -- a battle that left Vader with severe injuries. Hence, his need for the iconic mechanical suit.

Set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and the original Star Wars film from 1977, the Obi-Wan Kenobi show will be a limited event series, and is expected to follow the eponymous former Jedi during his time watching over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. McGregor reprises the role of Obi-Wan, which he played in all three Star Wars prequel films. In 1977's Star Wars, Obi-Wan -- played by Alec Guinness -- was living as a hermit on Tatooine under the alias Ben Kenobi before serving as Luke's first Jedi mentor. This journey led Obi-Wan to what would prove to be his final chronological confrontation with Vader on the Death Star.
