Disney's latest Star Wars deal may confirm Loki Season 2 is already moving forward.

According to Deadline, Loki creator/head writer Michael Waldron is set to write the upcoming Star Wars film Kevin Feige is developing and producing for Disney and Lucasfilm. Furthermore, as part of his new deal, Waldron is expected to be involved in some capacity with Loki Season 2. The show has yet to be officially renewed for a second season, but it was reported in November that Disney and Marvel are planning to begin production on Loki Season 2 in January 2022. If so, it's unclear if the show was renewed early or received a two-season order right off the bat.

In addition to working on Loki, Waldron was brought in to write the Phase Four Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after Sam Raimi replaced Scott Derrickson as director. Waldron won a Primetime Emmy for producing the Rick and Morty Season 4 episode "The Vat of Acid Episode" and produced several other episodes on the show, on top of writing the Season 4 episode "The Old Man and the Seat."

Loki will pick up with the titular God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston) after his escape with the Tesseract during Avengers: Endgame. An official trailer debuted at Disney's Investor Day 2020, offering a sneak peek of Loki's wild adventures through time and space on the show. Among other things, the trailer showed Loki crossing paths with members of the Time Variance Authority, an organization that monitors the timeline across the multiverse. The trailer was also filled with weird moments like Loki wearing a "Vote Loki" pin, in what appears to be a plot point inspired by the 2016 satirical comic book series of the same name.

Loki is one of several Marvel Studios series slated to premiere on Disney+ in 2021. WandaVision will kick things off when it debuts on Jan. 15, followed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The animated What If?... anthology series is expected to arrive this summer, with the Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel shows tentatively scheduled to follow in the second half of the year. Loki has yet to receive an official premiere date but is projected to begin streaming shortly after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finishes its run in the spring.

Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Sasha Lane, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard E. Grant. The series arrives on Disney+ in May 2021.
