Disney+ is rumored to be developing a shared universe of Star Wars TV shows that will interconnect and expand the galaxy far, far away more than ever before.

According to LRM Online, Disney+ is working on a shared Star Wars universe that will be similar to Game of Thrones. The site explained how Disney+ wants to keep a fresh stream of new subscribers by releasing a Star Wars show every quarter. If this is true, the plan would be to start rolling them out in mid-2021. In terms of the Game of Thrones comparison, sources said the shared universe would give each Westeros house its own series dedicated to its individual arc.

Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian is currently the only live-action Star Wars series on the streaming service. However, with plans for standalone series focusing on Cassian Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi, as well as a rumored project for Ahsoka Tano, it's clear Star Wars is no longer going to be confined to the silver screen.

Potential shows for the shared universe include the aforementioned Ahsoka Tano series, a Boba Fett spinoff presumably off the back of his appearance in The Mandalorian Season 2, an Ezra Bridger/Admiral Thrawn standalone and a mysterious show that will introduce a brand new character, similar to what Favreau did with Din Djarin.

The final piece of news is that Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Dave Filoni will oversee this shared universe in a role similar to Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige. As well as his work on The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Filoni serves as a writer, director and executive producer on The Mandalorian, which was a runaway success for Disney+ and has already been renewed for a third season before the second one has even aired.

Shared TV universes are nothing new and Netflix famously tried this with its Marvel shows including Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Although there were criticisms of a disconnect between the Marvel Cinematic Universe Netflix created and Disney's movie version of the MCU, the House of Mouse is moving forward with its own symbiotic relationship of Marvel movies and shows. Aside from rumors of a Star Wars universe on Disney+, it's important to remember Disney is still powering ahead with several live-action movie projects. Whether the Disney+ world of Star Wars will start to bleed into the movies remains to be seen, but either way, it's exciting news for fans of the long-running sci-fi franchise.
