CBR has the exclusive debut of the first eight pages of the upcoming Disney's Gargoyles series from Dynamite Entertainment.

Gargoyles #1 comes from writer Greg Weisman and artist George Kambadais. Initially announced during San Diego Comic-Con, the upcoming Gargoyles comic series serves both as a new season for the Walt Disney Television Animation series that ran from 1994 to 1997 and as an entry point for new fans.

What Will the New Gargoyles Series Be About?

The solicitation synopsis for Gargoyles #1 reads, "ALL-NEW STORIES FROM SERIES CREATOR GREG WEISMAN! THE STARS OF THE SENSATIONAL ANIMATED TV SERIES RETURN WITH NEW ADVENTURES! All-new ongoing series, in continuity with the epic GARGOYLES television classic! One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear. It was THE AGE OF GARGOYLES. Stone by day, Warriors by night, they were betrayed by the humans they had sworn to protect...frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years. Now, here in Manhattan, the spell is broken, and they live again! They are Defenders of the Night! THEY ARE GARGOYLES! Series creator GREG WEISMAN and illustrator GEORGE KAMBADAIS reintroduce the Manhattan Clan, a family of Gargoyles at full strength, though modern New York City is full of attractions and distractions, and each member of the clan has begun to go their own way. But their bonds will be tested, when nefarious factions from all across the world attempt to steal that rarest, most precious of possessions...an unhatched Gargoyle egg!"

In a recent interview with CBR, Weisman said expressed his excitement to be working on another Gargoyles project. "I've never really left the Gargoyles Universe," he explained. "I spend a lot of time there. I really feel I know all the characters intimately, still. I did feel a bit rusty at first, though, I have to admit, at weaving the storylines together, specifically, for a comic book. An individual issue is equivalent [to] one act of a three-act television episode. So I had some mental adjustments to make. But I like to think I got it licked." Kambadais also shared, "I came in contact with Gargoyles as a young boy, just starting my lifelong love affair with the fantasy genre. They are some immensely strong, very old beings fighting on the side of good against very rich and very corrupt villains with just their fists, flying above a metropolis unseen. Could they be real? One wouldn't and couldn't know. I loved them. I mean, what's not to love?"

Gargoyles #1 features cover art by David Nakayama, Amanda Conner, Lucio Parrillo, Lesley "Leirix" Li, Tony Fleecs and Trish Forster. The issue goes on sale Dec. 7 from Dynamite Entertainment.
