Disney+ has shared the first look at Amy Adams and Maya Rudolph in Disenchanted, the upcoming sequel to the 2007 musical fantasy romantic-comedy film Enchanted.

The image, posted to the streaming service's official Twitter account, shows Adams' Giselle and Rudolph's Malvina Monroe dressed in royal attire and angrily staring at one another. Rudolph joined Disenchanted in April 2021 and is reportedly set to play the central antagonist. Yvette Nicole Brown and Jayma Mays were also cast as villains in the sequel though the relationship between the three actors' characters is currently unknown.

Disenchanted was first announced in February 2010 but ended up in development hell until Disney Studios’ President of Production Sean Bailey confirmed the Enchanted sequel had finally been greenlit at Disney Investor Day in December 2020. Adam Shankman was hired to direct the sequel in 2016 after previously helming 2005's The Pacifier and 2008's Bedtime Stories for Disney. "Working again with Disney has been like coming home," Shankman said in a statement in 2020. "With Amy and this extraordinary cast, Alan and Stephen's mind-blowing new score, and Barry and Disney's support, I just hope to bring magic and joy to audiences around the world."

Producer Barry Josephson shared Shankman's excitement at Disenchanted officially being greenlit. "I guess dreams do come true," the producer said. "Producing Enchanted was the most rewarding film experience I've ever had. I'm so excited for Adam Shankman to begin filming Disenchanted. I want to thank everyone at Disney for supporting us all the way. Very special thanks to Amy Adams for deciding to play 'Giselle,' the character she created again! And we are so fortunate to have this incredible cast!"

Disenchanted will be set roughly ten years after Giselle's happily ever after seen in Enchanted. The sequel will begin with Giselle, Robert, and Morgan moving to a new house in the suburb of Monroeville, "a community overseen by Malvina Monroe, who has nefarious intentions for the family," according to the film's synopsis. "When problems arise, Giselle wishes that their lives were the perfect fairy tale. The spell backfires, with Giselle rushing to save her family and her homeland of the Kingdom of Andalasia before the clock strikes midnight."

Directed by Adam Shankman, Disenchanted stars Adams, Rudolph, Brown, Mays, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Idina Menzel, Kolton Stewart, Oscar Nunez and Gabriella Baldacchino. The sequel will premiere on Disney+ this Thanksgiving.
