Walt Disney Animation Studios released a new trailer for Encanto.

The trailer begins with an elderly woman explaining how her family's home came together by way of magic. We're then introduced to the rest of the family, each member of which possesses their own special magical ability... except for young Maribel. However, when the magic is threatened, it's up to Maribel to save it.

Encanto was announced during Disney's Investor Day presentation in December 2020, at which time a short clip was released. The film centers on Mirabel, a 15-year-old-girl (voiced by Stephanie Beatriz) in search of her greater purpose within her family. She's described as "imperfect and weird and quirky, but also deeply emotional and incredibly empathetic."

"Mirabel is a really funny, loving character who also deeply yearns for something more," Beatriz said when the first Encanto trailer was released. "She’s also not afraid to stand up for what she knows is right—something I love and relate to very much. I’m Colombian on my father’s side, and playing this role fills me with immense pride. As a Disney kid, I’d burn through my VHS tapes and adored every single magical story that the world of Disney introduced me to. I learned in those that stories that anything is possible, especially if you believe in magic and the goodness rooted deep inside us all."

While discussing the film, co-director Charise Castro Smith recently told Good Morning America that "It started out really personal. [Directors] Jared [Bush] and Byron [Howard] were the ones who came up with this idea and they started out by researching their own families. One of the big questions of the movie is, 'Do I really see my family for who they are?'"

"I think this is the first time that we've really tried to handle a large extended family," Howard added. "We have about a dozen principle characters who are very, very important to the story, and that was enormously challenging but the whole team really committed to that from the beginning."

In addition to Beatriz's Mirabel, Encanto also features the likes of Mirabel's sister Isabella (Diane Guererro), her other sister Luisa (Jessica Darrow), her aunt and uncle Pepa and Félix (Carolina Gaitán and Mauro Castillo), her cousin Dolores (Adassa) and additional characters voiced by María Cecilia Botero, Wilmer Valderrama, Angie Cepeda and Rhenzy Feliz.

Directed by Jared Bush, Byron Howard and Charise Castro Smith, Encanto arrives in theaters Nov. 24.
