With the Walt Disney Company shutting down all its theme parks, Disneyland and Walt Disney World have decided to donate their surplus of food to charities for local communities.

Theme park cast members, along with the Distribution Services team, helped by sharing surplus food inventory with the communities in conjunction with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

“These donations would not be possible without the dedication of cast members behind the scenes who collect, sort and distribute every item to ensure it’s delivered with the highest level of freshness, keeping food safety top of mind,” stated External Affairs Director Tajiana Ancora-Brown. “We feel an immense sense of pride and excitement every time we see the Disney Harvest truck making deliveries in the community, and we’re so grateful for the team that makes these donations happen.”

The resort has been able to share its excess inventory of dairy, fruit, vegetables, packaged goods and banquet meals with Second Harvest Food Bank to supply local food pantries throughout Orange County.

“We are deeply grateful to Disneyland Resort for their generous donation of food,” Harald Herrmann, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, stated. “Donations of food, especially shelf-stable food, will be critical in the days and weeks ahead to serve those in our community impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.”

Both parks are committed to serving those in need through unserved food while reducing food waste. The move came after the House of Mouse decided to close all its theme parks due to the spread of COVID-19.
