Disney has issued a statement denying that it is halting the release of classic titles on 4K Ultra HD.

"There are no plans to discontinue releases in a particular format," a Disney spokesperson said in a statement provided to Forbes, "We evaluate each release on a case by case basis and pursue the best strategy to bring our content into consumer homes across platforms that meet a variety of demands."

It was previously reported that Disney was planning to cease the release of older movies on the 4K Ultra HD format, including ones from the 20th Century Fox library. The report did make it clear that Disney would still put out new releases as well as certain catalog titles, such as animated films, on the format. Speculation over the reasons behind this now-debunked maneuver ranged from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic being to blame to Disney wanting to shift more focus over to streaming services like Disney+.

Disney began releasing titles on 4K Ultra HD with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in Aug. 2017. Since then, Disney has released new movies from its various divisions, including many titles from 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures, on the format. The next Disney films reportedly receiving the 4K Ultra HD treatment will be Hocus Pocus and Home Alone, both of which will arrive on Sept. 15.
