Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox's assets means that the company will own a portion of BOOM! Studios if the deal is finalized.

In 2009, Disney purchased Marvel Comics to take advantage of the publisher's supply of readily available assets. Fox did something similar in June when it purchased a minority stake in BOOM! to get first look rights for adapting its comics.

Now, Disney is acquiring Fox's assets, and while most comics fans are focused on the Fantastic Four, X-Men and Deadpool, BOOM! Studios is coming along for the ride, too. BOOM! might not own the market share that Marvel enjoys, but the publisher has a diverse supply of assets that Disney could look to develop in the coming years.

Comic books series Goldie Vance, Lumberjanes, Mouse Guard and Rust all had movie deals with Fox before the purchase. On the more mature side, Irredeemable and Malignant have also been in development for a few years.

What Disney will ultimately decide to do with its new minority stake in the publisher is yet to be seen. The studio could keep everything in place, buy the company outright, or sell it off. For all we know, Disney could decide to merge it with Marvel. Right now it's just too early to know for sure.
