Disney's Live-Action Villains Show Gets a Title, Reveals Source Material

A new show coming to the Disney+ streaming service will focus on Disney villains. The series will be titled Book of Enchantment and is based on a novel series by author Serena Valentino.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new series will feature iconic characters like Beast from Beauty and the Beast, Ursula from The Little Mermaid and Queen Grimhilde from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Michael Seitzman (Quantico, Code Black) will script the new series, a drama which he will also produce.

Serena Valentino, a comic book writer who created Gloomcookie and Nightmares & Fairy Tales, has written five novels in the Villains series. The first novel, The Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen was about Queen Grinhilde. The book told the story of what caused the Queen's vanity and jealous rage, and what caused her to become a true villain.

Valentino then followed up with books about Beast, Ursula, Maleficent and, finally, Mother Gothel from the movie Tangled, based on the Rapunzel fairy tale. A sixth book is set for release in 2019 called The Odd Sisters: A Villains Novel.

There is no word on whether Book of Enchantment will feature episodes based on each villain or if Seitzman will incorporate them into one large overarching story similar to Once Upon a Time.

Book of Enchantment will be one of a large number of new live-action television shows coming to Disney+, joining series from Marvel and Star Wars, as well as the High School Musical franchise.
