Disneyland's Avengers Campus will immerse theme park attendees in the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with one key difference: here, Thanos' Avengers: Infinity War snap never happened.
"This campus exists in the real world, and therefore, those heroes are here and keep an eye on us, keep us all safe. There's no apocalyptic snap happening in this campus," Dan Fields, executive creative director of Disney Parks Live Entertainment, told ComicBook.com.
In Infinity War, cosmic villain Thanos successfully collected the six Infinity Stones and, with their power, destroyed half the life in the universe with a snap of his fingers. The Avengers set things right in Avengers: Endgame, thanks to Black Widow and Iron Man's sacrifices.
However, in the Avengers Campus' lore, Iron Man is very much alive and sporting new Mark 80 armor. Jillian Pagan, story lead for Avengers Campus and staff writer for Walt Disney Imagineering, revealed the theme park land takes place in a divergent timeline that has "a shared history with the films."
"[W]e live in a version of the multiverse where there are some characters who did not sacrifice themselves for us," she explained. "They are alive and well and now welcome you to it."
Avengers Campus is scheduled to open in Disney California Adventure on July 18.
