The first reviews for Disney+'s Artemis Fowl are here, and they're dreadful.

As of writing, only 14 percent of the 49 reviews for Artemis Fowl on aggregator Rotten Tomatoes are positive. Generally, critics are blasting the film for not being entertaining enough and poor execution. If this score holds steady, Artemis Fowl will be Kenneth Branagh's (ThorHamlet) lowest-rated directorial outing on the website.

Artemis Fowl is based on author Eoin Colfer's series of fantasy novels of the same name. The first of those books, titled Artemis Fowl, released in 2011. There have since been seven other books in the main series. Following the release of the first trailer, the Artemis Fowl, which has a budget of approximately $125 million, adaptation was criticized for its lack of fidelity to the source material.

Originally slated for a theatrical release, Disney opted instead to put Artemis Fowl directly onto its streaming service as a result of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, Artemis Fowl stars Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Josh McGuire, Nikesh Patel, Adrian Scarborough and Miranda Raison, with Colin Farrell and Judi Dench. The film premieres exclusively on Disney+ June 12.
