Disney and Bruckheimer to End First-Look Deal

In what observers can't help but connect to the poor performance of The Lone Ranger, Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have announced they won't renew their first-look deal when it expires next year.

Although they'll continue to work together on the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, the joint press release states that, "Disney will continue to focus on its branded properties including Disney, Pixar, Marvel and now Lucasfilm, while Bruckheimer is looking to produce more mature films outside the scope of the Disney brand."Gregory Ellwood at HitFix has solid commentary on the split, and the industry-wide decline of the super-producer.
