Immediately upon landing in 1590 London in A Discovery of Witches’ Season 2 premiere, Diana and Matthew started searching for a witch who could teach Diana to properly utilize her magic. Diana quickly discovered a witch she thought could help, but when Matthew and his friends brought her to Matthew’s home, Diana was unable to pass her magic tests. Instead, she made a basket of fruit rot with her powers, causing the witch, Mistress Susanna Norman, to flee. In this week’s episode, however, Diana is determined to make a fresh start with Mistress Norman and perhaps finally find the teacher she’s been seeking.

Diana runs into Susanna on the streets and invites her to once again come to her home, but this time when Matthew is out. Susanna accepts and sets up another test of Diana’s magic. This time, instead of death, Diana creates life. Susanna instructs Diana to put the contents of an egg into a bowl, but Diana instead uses the contents to create a chick, which quickly hatches out of the egg. After seeing this, Susanna agrees to speak to the head of her coven Goody Alsop, who Susanna claims is England’s most powerful witch.

When Diana meets Goody Alsop, the elderly witch admits she’s been expecting Diana. She explains that, like her, Diana is a weaver, a witch that creates spells. This is the reason Diana can’t seem to cast traditional spells, she must make her own for her magic to work properly. Goody Alsop also reveals that Diana’s father was a self-taught weaver and knew Diana would be a weaver as well.

Diana asks Goody Alsop to teach her, but Goody Alsop hesitates, and Susanna insists they consult with the Council of Witches before Goody Alsop agrees. Soon thereafter, Diana makes her case to the Council, but although they take pity on her, several of them, including Susanna, feel it’s too dangerous to welcome her into the coven because of her marriage to Matthew. Goody Alsop defends Diana, claiming she is the witch who has been prophesied to come to their aid. And when Diana reveals she’s a time spinner and that she’s seen Ashmole 782, which they refer to as the first grimoire, she wins them over and is accepted into the group. Now it seems, Diana’s training as a witch, and more importantly as a weaver, can finally begin.
