Discover French at the 2010 Alternative Press Expo

Official Press Release

What happens when a graphic novel creator struggles with migraine headaches and an Argentine ant infestation? For writer and artist Renee French (The Soap Lady), the answer was simple: use haunting pencil drawings to illustrate a sweeping, often tense narrative of invasion, repulsion and liberation to create H Day, her first graphic novel in four years. The Alternative Press Expo (APE), part of Comic-Con International's (CCI) family of nonprofit conventions, today announced that French will debut H Day and be a guest at this year's show, courtesy of publisher PictureBox.

French has been making comics since the early 1990s. Her books include The Ticking, Micrographica, Edison Steelhead's Lost Portfolio and The Soap Lady. She divides her time between the U.S. and Australia. H Day showcases the qualities that led Myla Goldberg, author of Bee Season, to call French "that rare gift among artists-one whose work finds its way into the most guarded corners of our psyches and allows us to revel in all that is awkward, embarrassing or sticky about being alive."

APE takes place on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16 at The Concourse Exhibition Center, 620 7th Street in San Francisco. Admission is $10.00 for a single day and $15.00 for both days. Admission is available at the door.

Previously confirmed guests include Lynda Barry (writer/artist, Ernie Pook's Comeek, What It Is), Daniel Clowes (writer/artist, Ghost World, Eightball, Wilson), Rich Koslowski (writer/artist, The 3 Geeks, The King) and Tony Millionaire (writer/artist, Maakies, Sock Monkey).
