Director Jose Padilha Says He’s Happy With RoboCop Remake

Don’t you hate when someone blows up your spot? We imagine director Jose Padilha felt that way recently when his friend and City of God director Fernando Meirelles said the following last week in an interview:

“I talked to José Padilha for a week by phone. He will begin filming RoboCop. He is saying that it is the worst experience. For every 10 ideas he has, 9 are cut. Whatever he wants, he has to fight… ‘This is hell here,’ he told me. ‘The film will be good, but I never suffered so much and do not want to do it again.’ He is bitter, but it’s a fighter.”

Latino Review got their hands on a Brazilian newspaper interview in which Padilha said he was good with how things are going. “I have a script I’m happy with and I got the cast I have picked,” he said. “The director of photography is Lula Carvalho, my editor is Daniel Rezende (City of God, Elite Squad, The Tree of Life). I was even consulted for the selection of the producers.”

When asked about the pre-production problems Meirelles referred to, Padilha said, “We deal with those difficulties with coolness and familiarity.”

RoboCop, which stars Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Michael Keaton, Kenneth Michael Williams, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel and Jackie Earle Haley, is targeted for an August 2013 release.
