The "X-Men" spinoff "Gambit" has lost its director to Warner Bros.' "Justice League Dark." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Doug Liman has left the Fox project in order to helm the DC Films installment.

The report states that Liman's departure was "mutual parting of ways." Liman has been attached to the project since October 2015, signing on after director Rupert Wyatt dropped out. Fox is now in the process of enlisting a new director.

Despite this, Fox plans to move forward with production in January. Josh Zetumer remains on board to pen the script, with Simon Kinberg, star Channing Tatum and his partner Reid Carolin producing.

No new release date has been announced for "Gambit," but Fox has a couple of possibilities on its 2018 schedule: March 2 or June 29.
