Powerful characters are plentiful in Digimon, from villains to the main cast — not to mention there is always some super powerful digivolution right around the corner. Even for a kid's show, Digimon does a good job of building up its characters and creating a decent power scale, at least within its own narrative.

Despite how strong some of the villains in Digimon are — a few even on the level of Gods — the main characters remain the strongest for reasons other than simply being the protagonists.

10 Veemon Always Pushes Beyond His Limits

Veemon from Digimon Adventure 02 (Season 2)

Of all the Digimon in the series, Veemon may have the most fighting spirit. He is always willing to push himself to the absolute brink, alongside his partner Davis — the two of them are able to overcome what seem like insurmountable odds at times. It's a good thing because, despite the more flashy Digivolutions, several main characters in Digimon Adventure 02 are pretty lackluster in comparison with their contemporaries.

9 Biyomon Fights Royal Knights & Fallen Angels Evenly

Sora hugging Biyomon

Biyomon is often forgotten in the Digimon Adventures series, as Gabumon and Agumon take up most of the focus (with Patamon getting a big boost later in the series). She is an extremely powerful character when she achieves her Phoenixmon form, one that further augments Omnimon, allowing the latter to become Omnimon Merciful Mode. Biyomon also has a great relationship with her trainer, Sora, who always acts as the calming force on the team.

8 Gabumon Makes Up One Half Of Omnimon

Anime Digimon omnimon (1)

As the first series in Digimon, it's surprising how strong many characters in Digimon Adventures are. A peak example of this is the creation of Omnimon, a character that still carries weight in the later series.

Omnimon is the combination of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon (the digivolved state of Gabumon), two of the strongest characters in Adventures. Gabumon often plays second fiddle to Agumon, but both of them are on equal footing until Agumon gains more evolutions.

7 Terriermon Injures Zhuqiaomon, One Of The Four Digimon Sovereigns

Terriermon

Few main characters can claim the capability of injuring a being as powerful as Zhuqiaomon, like Terriermon does (as MegaGargomon) in Digimon Tamers. Zhuqiaomon is a Digimon Sovereign, having helped create the digital world, placing him near the top in terms of power. The one thing that holds Terriermon back from being higher is that many of his Digivolutions are all or nothing. It's as if he places all his stats into only one category in a game, rather than spreading them out.

6 Gaomon Can Defeat Royal Knights

Gaomon

Gaomon of Digimon Savers is among the few characters that can not only stand toe-to-toe with the Royal Knights but easily defeat a few of them in his Burst Mode, pushing him past Mega Level. The Knights, a group that has been around for a while, are generally considered to be the benchmark for power. It's a testament to both Gaomon and Thomas Norstein — the duo being among the best in the whole series due to how well they balance each other.

5 Agumon Has A Multitude Of Different Forms

Agumon from Digimon Savers/Data Squad (Season 5)

As the main character of Digimon Data Squad, Agumon progressively gets stronger as the series goes on. He's nothing to sneeze at in his base form, taking the role of the Digimon equivalent of Pikachu.

However, his true strength is in the multitude of forms he can turn into, from his burst mode to achieving ShineGreymon status. As ShineGreymon, Agumon is easily one of the strongest Digimon in the entire series — someone who can, in theory, even stand up to Susanoomon's might.

4 Guilmon Can Digivolve Into Gallantmon

Guilmon from Digimon Tamers (Season 3)

Guilmon, Takato Matsuki's partner, is one of the main characters in Digimon Tamers. While he has a few other forms he's digivolved into, the strongest by far is Gallantmon. He helps defeat D-Reaper's final form, in part due to the boost he receives after being partnered with Takato. Not only that, Guilmon can become Crimson Gallantmon when he fuses with Grani, making him even more powerful than before.

3 Patamon Can Withstand Reality Warping

Patamon

The two best words to describe Patamon of Digimon Adventure fame are cute and adorable. While Agumon has always been the star of the show, it's Patamon who is the strongest main Digimon in the series. In his evolved state of Seraphimon, he is able to withstand reality-warping events, something very few Digimon can pull off. Patamon also manages to defeat Piemon, a feat that even Agumon is unable to accomplish.

2 Hackmon Is One Of The Royal Knights

Hackmon

Hackmon appears in Digimon ReArise, a video game released by Bandai Namco in 2018. The game has some interesting features — particularly the use of the Holy Knight Digimon. Among the strongest in the game is Hackmon, Mon's partner. His peak form is Jesmon X, a Digimon whose speed and strength are nearly unmatched. If that isn't enough, Hackmon displays very few weaknesses, making him nearly perfect.

1 Shoutmon Becomes The King Of All Digimon

Shoutmon cries in Digimon Fusion

No Digimon can reach the heights that Shoutmon achieves during Digimon Xros Wars. He is partnered with Mikey, always dreaming of becoming the Digimon King — which seems like a pipe dream considering how much stronger a few of his fellow Digimon have been (with some even considered to be Gods).

Yet Shoutmon manages to earn the title thanks to his final form, Shoutmon X7F Superior Mode. The fact he's imbued with Omnimon's power already puts Superior Mode in an entirely different league than the others.
