The original Digi-Destined are probably the most well-known characters in the Digimon franchise. In the same way that everyone remembers the generation one Pokemon, people mostly remember tuning in for Digimon Adventure moreso than Digimon Tamers or Digimon Frontier.  The characters in this series all played off of one another well, and as a result they're the ones that keep getting stories told about them as well.

The Digi-Destined crew had some of the most powerful Digimon, as they all reached Mega evolutions and beyond in the series as they had to fight off some incredibly powerful beings with intentions on taking apart both the regular world and the Digital World alike. Just what did all the Partner Digimon look like in their final forms?

8 Tai – Agumon (Bond Of Courage)

Tai Agumon Bond of Courage

The leader of the Digi-Destined, Tai Kamichi basically unites the entire team. He’s quite headstrong, and is almost too eager, which can lead to him taking risks that don’t need to be taken – like when he believed he wasn’t actually alive in the Digital World, or forced Agumon to Digivolve and created SkullGreymon. Agumon’s most powerful Digivolution is Agumon (Bond of Courage), a special form Agumon achieved after Eosmon had defeated the combined form of Agumon and Gabumon, Omnimon. This new power allowed Agumon with Tai’s help to defeat Eosmon, the main villain in Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna.

7 Matt – Gabumon (Bond Of Friendship)

Matt Gabumon Bond of Friendship

Matt is the cool loner of the original team that has to be taught that it’s okay to make friends and rely on them. He goes out of his way to help the rest of the team, often times allowing his effectiveness in helping them to reflect on his own self-worth. His partner Digimon is Gabumon, whose ultimate form is Gabumon (Bond of Friendship), a form that is meant to be Gabumon’s most powerful Digivolution. This ability covers Gabumon in armor, and grants him flight and increased weaponry that includes lasers and powerful tracking weaponry.

6 Sora – Phoenixmon

Sora Phoenixmon

Sora is the “team mom”, and spends much of her time operating as the second in command of the group. In the original series, she’s more of a tomboy, and a lot like Matt, defines herself by how useful she is to her friend group, not understanding how loved she is by the Digi-Destined.

Sora’s partner is Biyomon, whose most powerful form is Phoenixmon, a Mega form that Biyomon went into when Sora saved her life from Machinedramon. Phoenixmon’s signature attack is Starlight Explosion, which rains down purifying golden grains to the ground.

5 TK – Seraphimon

Digimon TK Seraphimon

At first, TK’s personality is basically just “Matt’s younger brother”. He’s generally happy and does whatever he can to help Matt get along with the other kids. It isn’t until the second season where he develops more of a personality. Most of the first season involves him finding the strength to stand on his own. His partner Digimon is Patamon, one of the most powerful Digimon on the show. Patamon’s most powerful Digivolution is Seraphimon, which comes with a host of different attacks, including being able to turn a sword from the armor on his arm into Strike of the Seven Stars, where he blasts an enemy with super-heated light energy.

4 Joe – Vikemon

Digimon Joe Kido Vikemon

Joe was the closest thing to an adult on the team. He was the oldest member, but he was also the person who was constantly worried about everything going on. He kept the team from taking any unnecessary risks though, which was necessary given their leaders were constantly leading them into dangerous missions. Joe’s partner Digimon is Gomamon, with his Mega form being Vikemon. Vikemon appeared after the group had to rescue Meicoomon from the Digimon Emperor. His special attack is Arctic Blizzard, which involves freezing the opponent by turning the temperature to absolute zero.

3 Izzy – HerculesKabuterimon

Digimon Izzy HerculesKabuterimon

Izzy is the team’s brains. There’s nothing the character isn’t capable of figuring out if he’s given enough time. The problem is: he can often focus too much on his intelligence, shutting out the rest of his friends. It takes his partner Tentomon to help him understand his disconnect from everyone else. Tentomon’s most powerful Digivolution is HerculesKabuterimon. HerculesKabuterimon specializes in speed, and its special ability is Mega Electro Shocker.

2 Mimi – Rosemon

Mimi Tachikawa Rosemon

Mimi Tachikawa is a spoiled member of the team who makes everything about her at first. But her character arc involves her learning to care for the people around her, turning her into a fighter just like the rest of the team. Mimi’s partner Digimon is Palmon, and her mega evolution is actually Rosemon.

Rosemon first appeared during the Digimon Adventure tri series, to help battle against Imperialdramon. Rosemon’s special ability is Thorn Whipping, which allows Rosemon to hit people with an electric whip and turn them into her servant.

1 Kari – Magnadramon

Digimon Kari Seraphimon

Kari is Tai’s younger sister, and she stays out of the show for the first half of the series. It isn’t until Gatomon finds her in the other world that she becomes one of the Digi-Destined. Generally kind and sweet, she doesn’t have a problem stepping up when she’s required to as a Digi-Destined. Gatomon’s mega form is Magnadramon, one of the Four Great Dragons of the Digital World. Its special ability is Fire Tornado, which hits the opponent with... strangely... pure light energy, wiping out anyone evil that gets hit by it.
