Set in present-day, the exact same character designs for its human and Digimon characters are prevalent throughout the trailer while reimagining the franchise for new audiences over 20 years since the original anime series' debut in 1999.

Toei Animation released a brief teaser trailer for the relaunch in January alongside the announcement of the rebooted series. Digimon takes place in an infinite digital world populated by digital monsters known as Digimon that partner themselves with human visitors known as the DigiDestined. Created initially in 1997 as a line of virtual pets, Digimon received a massively popular anime series and video game in 1999 that brought the franchise to audiences worldwide.
