WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Season 1, Episode 10 of Digimon Adventure 2020, "The Steel-Solid Super Evolution," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

The DigiDestined are on the ropes following their confrontation with MetalTyrannomon in last week's episode. The Ultimate-level Digimon proved far too much for both Ogremon, who surprisingly leaped to the children's aid, and Greymon, who failed to Digivolve to the dark dinosaur's level and was beaten back into his Rookie form. Episode 10 begins with the group picking up the pieces following the devastating brawl but ends with Greymon completing his aborted evolutionary cycle. Yes, that's right: MetalGreymon has officially arrived in the Digimon reboot.

In "The Steel-Solid Super Evolution," the DigiDestined escape from MetalTyrannomon and take shelter in the woods. This is the first major setback they've encountered on their journey so far to find the Holy Digimon, and with the metallic monster roaming the ground and squadrons of Soundbirdmon filling the skies, there is no escaping Devimon's evil sights. As Agumon recuperates, Matt and Tai butt heads over what their next moves should be. Izzy eases the tension within the group by revealing the digital map he's put together based on the locations they've already traveled to. Through this, they're able to confirm that Ogremon's intel -- telling them to go "straight ahead" to find the Holy Digimon -- is accurate.

The only problem is, Ogremon left out a crucial detail: the way forward is filled with a dark, corrosive substance that Izzy calls miasma. Mimi experimentally throws one of Joe's textbooks (unbeknownst to poor Joe) into the miasma and it melts almost instantly. Clearly, going forward isn't as straightforward as Devimon's ex-minion made it sound. But this limitation on the gang's options helps to crystallize their only course of action: taking MetalTyrannomon head-on. Tai and Agumon volunteer to act as a distraction while the others find the best path to escape down. It's a typically foolhardy plan for the DigiDestined's bravest member.

With the odds firmly stacked against them, Agumon Digivolves to Greymon, a Champion-level Digimon, and draws the Ultimate-level MetalTyrannamon to them. What Greymon lacks in size, he makes up for in speed, weaving through the larger dinosaur's legs in the hopes of tripping the beast up as though he were one of Star Wars' AT-AT walkers. Eventually, he's successful -- pulling one of MetalTyrannomon's legs from out underneath him and letting gravity do the rest. It's an impressive sight to behold, and it isn't long until Greymon starts to glow in anticipation of achieving the next level.

Digimon Adventure 2020 MetalGreymon

Digimon Adventure 2020's MetalGreymon isn't markedly different from the original's design, though its tattered wings appear to have an almost fairy-like glow to them this time around. Having already made significant gains on its opponent when they were unevenly matched, Tai's newly upgraded partner makes short work of MetalTyrannomon on a level playing field.

Following this victory, the DigiDestined decide to break the cardinal rule of Dungeons & Dragons and split the party up, with Tai leading one group and Matt the other, in the hopes of figuring out which of the two paths available to them is best. Luckily for Matt's team, a preview for next week's episode teases some company for MetalGreymon in the form of a certain metal wolf...
