The Digimon franchise has seen many animated incarnations with over 10 seasons and 18 movies under its belt. There are few installments that take place within the same universe/timeline and most try to reinvent the franchise. Digimon Frontier had the DigiDestined turn themselves into Digimon while Digimon Universe: App Monsters combined Digimon with smartphones and apps.

In 2020, the franchise chose to reboot its first series, Digimon Adventure, retelling the story of the original 8 Digidestined and their partner Digimon. While fans of the other seasons including Adventure 02, Tamers, Frontier, Data Squad, and Fusion might not get to see their favorites characters in this new series, there have been several Digimon from those seasons who have already made a cameo or two.

10 AxeKnightmon (Digimon Fusion)

AxeKnightmon

AxeKnightmon, or DarkKnightmon in Japanese, makes their Digimon Adventure reboot debut in Episode 22, “The Unbeatable Blue Sagittarius”. It’s later revealed that AxeKnightmon is a corrupted form of Gatomon (Tailmon) and the digivolved form of SkullKnightmon. Longtime fans will know that AxeKnightmon is one of the main antagonists of Digimon Fusion. In that season, he is the DigiFuse of SkullKnightmon and Axemon.

9 Spadamon (Digimon Fusion)

Spadamon

Another Digimon Fusion character to show up in the reboot is Spadamon, who appears in Episode 19, "Howl, Jyuoken," as a member of Leomon’s team. Spadamon is a member of the Fusion Fighters who fuses with Shoutmon X4 to form Shoutmon X4S in order to defeat GigaWaruMonzaemon. He is also one of the many Digimon summoned by Mikey in the Season 2 finale to form Shoutmon X7F Superior Mode to take down MegaDarknessBagramon.

8 Falcomon (Digimon Data Squad)

Falcomon, along with Spadamon, is a member of Leomon’s team in the 2020 reboot but he is actually the partner Digimon of Keenan Crier in Digimon Data Squad. Keenan is transported to the Digital World as an infant and is raised by Frigimon, Merukimon, and Falcomon. Falcomon’s Champion from, Peckmon, also makes an appearance in the reboot as the Leomon's winged soldiers.

7 Calmaramon (Digimon Frontier)

In Episode 21, “The Tide-Turning Update,” the DigiDestined in the human world are forced to work remotely with their Digimon to take down Calmaramon who is hacking into a large cargo ship system. Calmaramon makes her Digimon debut in Digimon Frontier as Ranamon’s Beast Spirit form.

Ranamon is portrayed as being quite vain and obsessed with her looks, even getting into fights with Zoe due to her raging jealousy. However, later in the season, she gains the power to Digivolve into her Beast Spirit form which, in addition to making her more powerful, also turns her into a giant, ugly squid. This often frustrates Calmaramon. To rub salt into the wound, Zoe’s Beast Spirit from, Zephyrmon, is far more attractive than her.

6 Velgemon (Digimon Frontier)

Velgemon

Velgemon is a giant bird Digimon who’s often seen fighting on the side of darkness. He makes a brief appearance in the reboot and captures T.K. after Minotarumon was defeated. In Digimon Frontier, Velgemon is Koichi's initial Beast Spirit form. Velgemon is so powerful that he is only able to be defeated with the combined power of both BeoWolfmon and Aldamon. They manage to purify his spirit and free Koichi from Cherubimon's control.

5 Volcamon (Digimon Frontier)

One of the more recent episodes of the Digimon Adventure reboot features Etemon and Volcamon battling it out for the title of “King of Digimon”. While the former is one of the first villains that the DigiDestined fight in the original series, Volcamon makes a brief appearance in Digimon Frontier. In one of the later arcs, the DigiDestined are forced to fight inside Sakkakumon’s ten spheres. J.P. ends up in the Earth Area where he fights Volcamon who prays on his insecurities of whether his friends actually like him.

4 Lopmon (Digimon Tamers)

Lopmon is one of the more recognizable characters in the Digimon franchise as their Mega form is Cherubimon, one of the legendary Celestial Digimon. Cherubimon shows up in Digimon the MovieDigimon Frontier, and Digimon Fusion, but her most notable appearance is as Suzie Wong’s partner Digimon in Digimon Tamers.

Lopmon first appeared as one of the Devas in her Ultimate form, Antylamon. Lopmon is currently in the reboot as one of the Holy Digimon and will most likely play a major role in the series as it heads into its final arc.

3 MarineAngemon (Digimon Tamers)

In Episode 34, “Hikari and Tailmon,” the DigiDestined find themselves in an underwater city led by MarineAngemon. Fans will remember the cute, aquatic fairy Digimon from Digimon Tamers. MarineAngemon is one of the Digimon to assist the Digimon Sovereign as they take on the D-Reaper. After being rescued by Kenta Kitagawa, the little Digimon becomes his partner with a light pink D-Power appearing in Kenta's pocket.

2 Golemon (Digimon Adventure 02)

Golemon has appeared across several seasons of Digimon, including Digimon Tamers in one of Takato’s cards. In the reboot he's a friend to Mimi and Togemon. He first makes his debut in Digimon Adventure 02, not as a Digimon, but as an artificial being created from a Control Spire by Arukenimon. This is in line with the Golem in Jewish folklore which is an animated anthropomorphic being created entirely from inanimate matter.

1 Pegasusmon (Digimon Adventure 02)

Pegasmon and Takeru in Digimon Adventure 2020

After all of the other Digimon have evolved to their Champion forms in the reboot, Episode 32, “Soaring Hope,” finally sees Patamon level up. Fans expected to see the angelic Angemon appear, but instead saw Patamon digivolve into Pegasusmon. Pegasusmon is initially Patamon’s Armor digivolution in Digimon Adventure 02 after T.K. discovers the Digi-Egg of Hope. Like the original Pegasusmon, this form is not quite as powerful as the Champion-level Angemon. It is used in the reboot when Patamon doesn’t quite have enough energy to Digivolve to Angemon, even though here there is no Digi-Egg of Hope to be seen.
