Diamond Book Distributors and Checker Book Publishing Group have reached an agreement that names DBD as a key U.S. and worldwide distributor of Checker's English-language graphic novels to major bookstore, library, warehouse, and mass merchandise accounts, many of which will be exclusive to DBD.
The Dayton, OH-based graphic novel specialist was founded in 2000 and has published collected editions of such hit titles as Alien Legion: Force Nomad, Alien Legion: Piecemaker, Clive Barker's Hellraiser (based on one of the most popular horror movie series of all time), the Eisner-nominated anthology Clive Barker's Tapping the Vein, and Supreme: The Story of the Year (collecting the acclaimed Alan Moore run of Supreme).
"Checker's line-up reads like a fan's want-list of great, classic comic book stories," said Diamond Vice President of Purchasing Bill Schanes. "Giving readers terrific stories in high-quality editions has made – and will continue to make – Checker a top source for the best in graphic novel compilations."
"The graphic novel market is expanding to include a growing and diversifying retail base accustomed to merchandising on a returnable model," said Checker Publisher, Mark Thompson. "It takes expertise and specialization in the graphic novel category to capitalize on this fully, and that's what DBD brings to the table."
Diamond's Sales Team will begin working with independent bookstores, selected exclusive book wholesalers, warehouse clubs, mass merchandisers, and libraries to place Checker's graphic novels across the country. "Combining nostalgia, top-notch creators, and popular series, Checker has a winning combination," Schanes added. "We're happy to help them spread the word about some of the best stories yet collected."
